Happy New Year and welcome to a fresh semester! I hope that everyone had an amazing Fall term and if things didn’t go the way that you had hoped, don’t give up just yet! If you are looking for a few ways to get the best out of the Winter term, I have made a list of a few tips and tricks to ensure that you get the most out of second semester:
1. Time Management
There is no doubt that everybody likes to have a fun – however, it is important to be able to know when going to Isaac’s with your friends is a great idea, or when you should stay in and focus on school work. There are tons of apps – such as A,B,C – that are designed to help you stay on track of things! Give it a try and you’ll be back at Thirsty Thursday’s before you know it!
2. Getting Extra Help
At Brock, there are tons of ways that students can get extra help as long as they are willing to ask for it. For example, the library has a Drop In Centre where students can attend certain sessions and get help extra help on their assignments. In addition, attending your prof or TAs office hours is a great way to ensure that you are on the right track for your assignments.
3. Participate in Seminars!
Seminars are not only an easy way to get an extra percent towards your final grade, seminars are also helpful because you get to bounce ideas off of other students – which is extremely helpful for assignments!
4. Be Prepared for Class
It may seem extremely simple to say, but being prepared for classes every week goes a very long way. Some instructors occasionally give surprise tests, and nothing is worse than being unprepared for a quiz.
Set aside a certain amount of time per week just to study… It’ll pay off during exam season when you don’t have to stay up all night trying to teach yourself an entire semester’s worth of material.
Keep your notes clean, keep your binders separated and use sticky tabs for your textbooks to keep track on important sections. Being organized is a simple and efficient way to maximize how productive you are on a day to day basis by eliminating the time you’ll spend searching for notes.
I hope you all have a wonderful second week back and I wish you all the best this term! Enjoy the rest of Frost Week 2015!
