For many Badgers, the best places to grab some lunch on campus is Subway from Union Station or a Badger Burger at Sky bar. Eating on campus is a great thing; it’s easy and you don’t have to prepare any meals. However, what if I told you that there was easier ways to prepare food and bring to school! This is your guide to grocery shopping for the school year!
1. Pick a day every week to go grocery shopping
Especially if you or your roommates have a car, plan one day for a house trip to the grocery store! That way no one has to bus it (#thestruggle) and it’s always more fun shopping with friends. (Tip: Don’t ever go grocery shopping when you’re hungry, you’ll be tempted to buy everything!)
2. Make a list
Before you go shopping make sure you look in your fridge and cabinets to see what you actually need. Writing out a list and sticking to it will save you a lot of money and also time!
3. Take advantage of your student status
If you do pick one day to go grocery shopping pick a Tuesday! At Zehrs, Canadian Super Store, and Sobeys students get 10% off of their purchase. Just have to show the cashier your student card and you save $!
4. Use BUSU Grocery Shuttle!
If you live on campus or want to go for a quick grocery shop between classes make sure to check out BUSU’s new grocery shuttle! This bus will take you to Sobeys, on Tuesdays (That student discount!!!!) and run from 6:00pm to 9:00om from Brock. Check out the next dates at: http://www.studentpowered.ca/services/student-services/grocery-shuttle/
5. Use grocery apps to get coupons
Coupons are a great way to save money for students however they can be really annoying to keep track of if their in paper form. Now you can get apps like, Flipp, where you can look at all of the flyers in the area and use the coupons you find; right in the palm of your hand!
6. Use reusable bags
This is something I personally do every time I go grocery shopping. It’s a great way to be a little bit greener and it’s cheap to buy some bags! Next time you’re at the store make sure you add some bags onto your purchase.
So, next time you’re thinking about what to buy on campus remember how easy grocery shopping can be!
